Natural Home "Medicine" Cabinet: 34 Herbs, Essential Oils, and Homeopathic Remedies to Treat Injury, Illness and Emotions
I get asked regularly what I keep around the house to prevent or treat illness and injury. Even in a healthy home, kids get sick, and with four athletes in the home, we have our fair share of injuries!
Below is a list of what I always have on hand along with some usage tips. The truth is, I have many more remedies at home as I need them for my work, but these are the ones that I use the most. You can treat many illnesses, injuries and emotional needs with the list below and each one has many more uses than I could ever list here! In addition to the list below, I have found that a whole foods diet, low in grains, dairy, and sugar, helps to keep us well. Don't forget that food is medicine! Try putting together your own natural "medicine" cabinet. I think you’ll be amazed at how much healthier you’ll be and how much time and money you’ll save on doctors visits and prescriptions.
Oh the liver! Our livers really do so much for us. At the most basic level, our liver plays a major role in digestion, metabolism, immunity, and storage of nutrients. According to Chinese medicine, the liver (the system, not just the organ) is responsible for the smooth flow of emotions including Qi and blood. Unfortunately, many of us experience ongoing liver symptoms, as we're living in a culture full of processed foods and chemicals that lead to congested, toxic, and stagnant livers.
The stresses of our daily lives, combined with the chemicals we’re exposed to, leave us full of toxins, and with yucky liver symptoms like headaches or migraines, PMS, acne, hormone imbalances, anger and irritability. From an energetic or emotional perspective, our liver is also a storehouse for our old pain and traumas. It’s so important that we clean out, detox, and restore our livers!
A 3-day cleanse is short and sweet, but makes a big impact. It's an amazing way to re-set your energy, thought patterns, eating patterns and blood sugar response. Ok, this is a fun one…. Let’s talk about tooth decay. No parent ever wants to see their child’s teeth chipping away! Believe me, we didn’t. Our little guy was still nursing and had a pretty incredible diet, so to say I was surprised, would be an understatement. Of course I immediately did a thorough inspection and he was missing chunks of tooth in three other spots! I don’t typically rush off to dentists and doctors, but we went to 5 dentists over the next two weeks, We found out that Emmet had “soft and weak enamel.” Basically, Emmet’s teeth had no protection and we were headed towards serious tooth decay. Four of the dentists said that we “HAD” to do dental surgery.
There's a good chance you have suffered from adrenal fatigue during a time of illness or increased stress. If you haven't, you probably will.
