I like to make homemade organic elderberry syrup with local raw honey, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves! I just made a huge batch (tripled this recipe) for family and friends. It's so much better than the store-bought because there's no sugar, it's sweetened with just raw honey, and it's all organic! I bottle it and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 months or it can also be frozen right away and used for up to a year! Besides the fact that the ingredients are so much higher quality than store bought, you can't beat the cost to make it yourself. I mean seriously, it's $10- $14 for 4 oz at the store! You and your family get all organic, fresh, delicious elderberry syrup for a fraction of the cost. In our family, adults take one tablespoon a day for maintenance and the kiddos take one teaspoon per day. You can multiply that by 4 if anybody's fighting anything! I give my leftover cooked elderberries to my chickens :-)

I get asked regularly what I keep around the house to prevent or treat illness and injury. Even in a healthy home, kids get sick, and with four athletes in the home, we have our fair share of injuries! Below is a list of what I always have on hand along with some usage tips. The truth is, I have many more remedies at home as I need them for my work, but these are the ones that I use the most. You can treat many illnesses, injuries and emotional needs with the list below and each one has many more uses than I could ever list here! In addition to the list below, I have found that a whole foods diet, low in grains, dairy, and sugar, helps to keep us well. Don't forget that food is medicine! Try putting together your own natural "medicine" cabinet. I think you’ll be amazed at how much healthier you’ll be and how much time and money you’ll save on doctors visits and prescriptions. These delicious little date balls are packed with nourishment, but also great for an energy boost and as paleo vegan dessert. My family loves these in the fall and we keep them in the fridge for several days as a healthy go-to treat. Try rolling them in cocoa, coconut, or cacao nibs!
